The Belle of Suwannee
Built in Branford by Captain Robert “Bob” Ivey, this two-deck sternwheeler carried passengers and freight along the Suwannee. Florida’s archives remember it as one of the river’s best-known steamboats—and a favorite with honeymooners.
Pilot Dan McQueen, who helped build the vessel while teaching in Old Town, became part of its story too.

A later excursion boat bearing the name Suwannee Belle offered sightseeing and dinner cruises on the river in the late 1980s. It was a different vessel from the historic Belle of Suwannee pictured here.
